Even though the wheel will hit the number 23 on average 1 out of 38 spins, you may have to bet two-hundred times in a row before it hits. It may then hit three times in a row (though unlikely, it happens).
The odds of you winning each type of bet are as follows:
One Number Bet – 2.63% or 1:38
Two Number Bet – 5.26% or 1:19
Three Number Bet – 7.89% or 3:38
Four Number Bet – 10.53% or 2:19
Five Number Bet – 13.16% or 5:38
Six Number Bet – 15.79% or 3:19
Twelve Number Bet – 31.58% or 6:19
Eighteen Number Bet – 47.37% or 9:19
Two things that are important to understand. First, many people feel like betting even bets (Red, Black, Odd, Even, 1st 18, or 2nd 18) give you a 50% chance of winning. Because most roulette wheels have 0 and 00 on them (38 possibilities) and 0 and 00 are not considered to be Red, Black, Even, Odd, 1st 18, or 2nd 18, you will lose on any spin where 0 or 00 come up. Thus you have a 47.37% chance of winning an even bet. Same situation goes for the other bets.
Second, the Casino does not pay out based on odds. For example, if you chose 23 and it wins, you will be paid 35 credits even though that bet will only win 1 out of 38 times on average. The casino will pocket the other 3 credits. This brings us to the overall house edge. A casino that has both 0 and 00 on the wheel (most do) has a house edge of 5.26% with an overall payout of 94.74%. If you want to play odds, you should be playing slots or a game with a smaller edge.
